The Fairy Market by Lisa Taggart
Hello, my friends, what a pleasure it is to be back sharing another inky creation using the magical Lavinia stamps and stencils.
Today we are revisiting some old favourites. I adore the little fairy dwellings. I like to imagine them buzzing with activity and yes completely virus free …even in their shops! A magical land indeed.

The Steps in creating “Fairy Market”

- You won’t be surprised to find that the piece begins with ink spray on to multifarious card. This can be mopped up from your craft mat or sprayed on to card with water and pressed between two pieces of card. This is my favourite technique as the blending can be interesting and you get two prints!

- The card was trimmed. The sun was created by drawing around a circle template. The circle shape was painted with water then blotted with a tissue to remove the ink. When dry the centre was filled using yellow chalk pastel with a little white around the edge.

- Masks were created for the shops by stamping the images to copy paper then cut out. The first image was lightly stamped, the mask placed on top and then the second image stamped behind.

- To create a base for colouring the images were filled in using white gesso.

- The shops were stamped again. Copy paper provided a mask for the horizon line and the shop masks protected the images from the trees which were added to the background in various colours and using first- and second-generation stamping. An additional shop to the front was also added using part of a stamp.

- The stencil was used to add texture to both the background and foreground.

- I used a make up brush to blend the ink through the stencil.

- The images were coloured using water-based markers, but any pens would do. I stuck to pinks, purples, greens. Yellow was used to create the impression of light on the roof tops coming from the sun. Purple is a complimentary colour to green. The shops in the background received paler colour to help with perspective.

- Shadow was added under the shops using pastel pencils.

- More stencilling was added in a darker colour. Some black pen strengthened some of the line work.

- Well that’s about it for today. I wonder what delights await the tiny customers.

- Wish I could shop for fairy shoes!
