We’re going on a man hunt!

I know, it’s an interesting title. However this IS what we are doing! Armed only with a mobile phone camera and a trusty pair of walking boots we are off on a manhunt. This hunt is for a very specific man and the best bit…

We have no idea who they are.

What we do have is a collection of information, that needs to be put together, a bit like a jigsaw if you will.

Let’s look at what we do know.

We know that in the Denbighshire Free Press on the 5th September 1908 it cites the Parish records as showing Lady Margaret Thelwall was in residence in Plas Coch in Well Street in 1687.

This was found by searching for Welsh Newspapers online which is an amazing free resource.

Searching this far back in time is patchy at best. Luckily we are able to discuss our findings with local historian Gareth Evans who is very knowledgeable about Ruthin in times past.

Gareth had generously shared his research relating to the property and it included the following occupiers names. However there is still something that we need to research.

The aim of the research being to locate the person for whom the house was built.

The original question has now changed from which Constable of the Castle was the property built for, to a more generic “who” was the property built for.

Despite all this fabulous information, at the moment the question of the original owner remains unanswered.

There seem to be several names that repeatedly appear in the Ruthin records for this time. They include Thelwall, Longford, Parry, Goodman and Price.

The question is…will it be one of those names? Or somebody completely different?
