Photography is a dangerous Sport…

Photography is a dangerous sport. Especially if you do it like this.

On a dozy Sunday afternoon, I was driving back through Ruthin and was struck by how perfect the light was. It was obviously the perfect day to take photographs for the blog. So my daughter and I, in the name of all things Lavinia, parked up and diced with death crossing the road to get a good view of the Well Street Sign. Tacked onto the side of a pebble dashed building in a lovely blue and white. As a street sign it’s quite unusual.  Hardly the most interesting picture, I know, but it had to be done.

Then there was the photograph of the Dog Lane street sign. This was taken from the comfort of the car, by a passenger, who wound the window down to take the photograph.

My final photograph for this Sunday was to be of the area called Red Rocks. Well. I drove past the Ruthin Community Hospital, which is quite a narrow road, up the residential road and headed upwards with Moel Famau in the far distance. Really …the view…it’s quite something. On either side of this road are these sandstone sides. They are natural so I won’t call them walls, but they are so very tall that it’s quite oppressive. As in, I wouldn’t like to walk up there in the dark. Not alone..!

Forget the Tarmac and it feels quite timeless. It made me wonder if I was driving through a quarry. Whether this was the place where the sandstone for the building of the castle, and in turn Plas Coch, was sourced.

Back to the Photography adventure. It was Sunday so I didn’t think many people would be on the road, as I stopped the car and took photographs through the car window. There are a few spots along the way that were worthy of a photograph, so I was that dawdling Sunday driver, stopping randomly (and safely) to take photos. Luckily for me I had my strident warning system who out of nowhere shouted repeatedly “Cars! Cars! You need to move!”

Obviously when everything has been so chilled and relaxed you would throw your phone at your daughter ( the alarm system) and in a mad flapping panic start the engine, put the accelerator to the floor and drive off like a rally driver…wouldn’t you? That’s what I did.  Don’t say I don’t do anything for you. After all that the photographs unfortunately are no good. Something about taking them through a stationery car window which means… that they are now quite a… hmmm…let’s call them arty photo of the reflection of the photographer! Ridiculous!

So instead I present to you some beautiful photographs taken by a real photographer. (Thank you Chris Birchall!)
