Making a Magical Entrance

Tracey wanted to make the entrance to the Dreamatorium magical and what is more magical than …mushrooms!

These mushrooms would need to be weather resistant and immediately add a touch of whimsical charm to the front doorway of the Lavinia Stamps Dreamatorium.

It’s fair to say that this creating mushrooms malarkey started a while ago. Armed with a bottle of Powertex, some cotton fabric and a few rolls of tin foil it sort of expanded from there.

Once the form of the mushrooms had been created using mainly tin foil we added fabric dipped Powertex. Powertex is a fabric hardener that is weatherproof. Once this stage was dry they were ready to be coloured.

It was decided that these mushrooms would be of the red with white spots variety.

Once the painting was done, then came the matt varnish coating.

The next question for us was how do we display them and get them to stand upright on top of the door!

We found the answer to this important question was using some large empty catering tins and some foam.

Let me explain.

The large tins were used to decide on how we wanted the display to look.

Then to replicate that display we cut holes into some foam. These had to be the perfect size to hold each mushroom.

Then we added a touch of the Lavinia foliage and some twinkly lights and Lo!

Behold!

The Front entrance to The Lavinia Stamps Dreamatorium was complete with the beautiful Art Deco door knocker, letterbox and the stunning green paint topped with a display of mushrooms and foliage! Once some twinkly fairy lights had been added it was ready to welcome visitors.
