When looking at things in the archive that might have something to do Plas Coch, I came across a real gem.
Of all places…
…on the back of a menu.
This, however, was a menu with a difference. This was a menu from the 1960’s when Plas Coch was a Banqueting Hall.
Inside there is a double page spread of all the wonderful meals that were available to purchase for Luncheon, High Teas and Early Evening Meals.
There were options for Dinners, Extras and even Buffets on offer from the establishment of Mr and Mrs Rees Jones.
The real surprise and the hidden gem to the rear of the menu was a summary of the history and details of the renovations they had undertaken.
The renovations that Lavinia Stamps were undertaking had raised questions. These were unanswered questions, like :
What was the original floorplan of the house?
Is that the original staircase?
Where else could the stairs have been?
This magical piece of memorabilia would prove to be the key to answering these questions.
Don’t get me wrong, there were statements in this document that we could not prove to be right or wrong. However there were other parts that combined with the evidence in the building itself, made absolute sense. I will explain…
